Classic - IPOD/AUX/Video-IN

The iMIV Classic is the premium multimedia integration unit for your Volvo. It has the capability to not only seamlessly integrate your iPod or iPhone but also opens up the possibility for an auxiliary device such as a portable DVD player, GPS unit or Satellite receiver to be integrated into the factory Volvo entertainment system.

To complement its leading class audio quality on both the iPod or iPhone and auxiliary channels the iMIV Classic boasts the ability to provide video support as well - with built in authetication for Apple® devices. Video files stored on an iPod or iPhone can be played over the factory navigation screen; the same goes for the auxiliary video input.

In an effort to provide a complete solution the iMIV Classic also has great features such as:

• Song titles, Artist and Playlist information on the radio screen¹
• Control of an iPod/iPhone from the radio or steering wheel controls
• Automatic pausing and resuming of the iPod/iPhone when the vehicle is turned off
• Compatibility with vehicles with/without the factory RTI system.

As well, the iMIV Classic also has two modes of operation which we have dubbed Simple Mode and Advanced Mode. Operating the iMIV Classic in simple mode allows basic control of functions such as next track and previous track from the radio or steering wheel controls, while all other functions can be accessed from the iPod or iPhone itself. Advanced mode locks the screen of the iPod/iPhone but has the benefit of being able to scroll through and select playlists from the radio and steering wheel controls. Song and Playlist names will also be displayed on the radio screen for easy navigation.

How does the iMIV Classic Work?

The iMIV Classic is able to emulate OEM peripherals that were optional in Volvo vehicles. By doing this the iMIV Classic can effectively communicate with the OEM radio, and utilize every feature available. To provide the most complete solution available the iMIV Classic emulates two peripherals, one for the iPod or iPhone and one for the auxiliary input. These can be changed by uploading different firmware – available under the downloads section after logging in – however the iMIV Classic emulates a CD Changer and TV Receiver by default from the factory. Depending on the radio that is installed in the vehicle the iMIV Classic can emulate the following peripherals:

• 10 Disk Trunk Mounted CD Changer
• MiniDisk Changer (prior to MY 2005 )
• Satellite Radio Receiver (MY 2005 and newer)
• Television Receiver

Note: Which channels are available is dependent on the radio that is installed in the vehicle. Only Satellite and MiniDisk channels can display song and playlist information. The Satellite and Minidisk channels are not present at the same time on any Volvo radio.

CD Based RTI Systems

Currently only DVD based RTI systems are officially supported. If your vehicle has a CD based RTI system it is possible to integrate the iMIV Classic with audio only support. You will need the CD RTI Connector. Please see the downloads section for a PDF file describing how to do this.

iMIV Classic DVD RTI Package

The iMIV Classic DVD RTI Package is intended for vehicles that came equipped from the factory with a DVD RTI system. This package will ‘chain’ the iMIV Classic behind the RTI system. It is completely plug and play and will mount the iMIV Classic in the rear of the vehicle. Please note that if your vehicle is equipped with a TV Tuner, it will have to be disconnected.

The DVD RTI Package is intended for vehicles that came equipped with a factory DVD based RTI system. With this configuration it is also extremely easy to integrate one of our X1 Reversing Cameras into your vehicle. It is recommended that the iMIV Classic be installed in the rear of the vehicle where the iPod/iPhone cable be routed to the center console for easy access.
